Abstract

The objective of the work was to analyze the variability and uniqueness of bursal venations among different isolates and lineages of Haemonchus contortus, resulting from the replacement of populations benzimidazole- resistant by populations susceptible to these anthelmintics. By means of numerical processing of digital photos of the caudal bursa, obtained by light microscopy, we analyzed individuals of four isolates: one resistant, one susceptible, and two from the process of population replacement from benzimidazole- resistant to susceptible ones. The images were obtained from males of each of the four isolates from the area between the third and fourth rays of the right lobe. A biometric analysis of the digital images was carried out, which consisted of scanning the venations of each nematode in pixels by means of graphic editing, in order to obtain the radiance values in their morphology. For the statistical analysis, a Discriminant Multivariate Analysis was used, which classified correctly 95% of the individuals of the four isolates and 85% - 100% among the susceptible or resistant populations. The results obtained would provide a tool to identify populations of H. contortus- in this case benzimidazole- resistant or susceptible- based on morphological singularities in the bursal venation.
